That's what I know too.
I am German, but I know through my friends that if you are a US citizen you can enter Germany without a Visa (just like Germans to the US) and then stay there as a tourist....

Well I know one thing for sure. If the B2 allows him to stay for 6 month maximum, he definitely stayed much longer! So if I get that right, if he leaves now he will be banned...

I don't know the expiration date. How much could it differ from the actual expiration date? I thought that if you have a visa for 5 years f.e. you can stay for max 5 years, or is that wrong?

as far as I know, you can't get a state issued licence anywhere in the USA if you dont have a social Security number and you dont get it with a B2 Visa.
However you can drive in the USA...
