I've been living in the US for 10 years (various work visas) and been with my USC husband for 4 years in August (married for 2 years).

I've seen my family NHS doctor several times for check ups/smear tests etc over the past 8 years.

He knows I'm based in the US and always asks how life is going in NY and has never quibbled over...

I'm all for stopping people exploiting the system, but it seems a bit harsh that expat pensioners who have spent their whole life paying UK tax and national health contributions are now entitled to...

Its a tricky situation - The IBR programme does forgive interest for the first 3 years and then wipes out the entire balance of the loan and interest after 25 years of regular payments.

It looks like it would work out best if we file a married return separately as the benefits of the IBR (income based repayments) for my fiance's student loan will work...
