Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

And less than 2 weeks later, this payment is already reflecting in my record, very quick.

Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

I wouldn't say its concerning, I'm sure they will send out the letters whenever they work out mechanisms to end class 2/start class 3 etc.

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

So having now just gone back TPA-LGW, its not as much the (minor) hassle catch-22 as it was my multileg through/transit flight originating from outside either country. As you say, you just now have...

Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

Same. Although with this final class 2 payment, that's me 36 years paid...only two to go at the Class 3 ('contracting out' added 3yrs for me).

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

Yep. Admittedly it's only a very minor inconvenience having to stop by the desk (when travelling with no bags). It's just a bit annoying you now get penalised for having the two citizenships. As I...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

I'm currently having fun with that as well with BA. I'm in Nigeria, flying back to Heathrow tomorrow, overnight Gatwick then on to Tampa Saturday. Using US passport details (as I have done for...

Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

I don't think we will hear anything regarding Class 3 rate contributions till next year sometime. For me when I applied, I elected to backpay the 20 years or so of Class 2's, plus then anually going...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

I think that was just his deranged April's Fools 'joke' last year wasn't it? Although there is that bill by Senator Bernie Moreno which hasn't really gotten anywhere as yet....not do I think it ever...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

Not to mention, the US has required that as a dual citizen you enter the US on a US passport..... forever? At least decades.

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

This is no different to how it was before the new rules. It's pretty simple, send them the US passport, or a photocopy of every page of the US passport. I did the latter with my US born daughter when...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

Yep....I looked up my booking after the fact, I think by them changing the passport at the desk, it also cleared out the other boxes I had filled in at time of booking (my trusted traveler ID and...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

So, I happen to be flying to Heathrow on day 1 of the ETA enforcement. At check in in the US, for the past 20 years I have had them scan my US passport (but have British one available if asked)....

Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

April 2025-April 2026 tax year - can be paid at class 2 rate. Everything else going forward, class 3.

Re: Moving Back to US - Would you do it now?

Even though I think Trumpy is a complete tool, neither him nor his cronies, nor their insane policies would not stop me moving back to the US if I was in your situation. UK (and most western...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

MIght not be a bad option. I hear if you do it that way, you apparently get a free 5 star hotel in Canary Wharf with sumptious breakfast buffet, a new Iphone and daily spending allowance. Should...

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

Well, I posit it would equally be a hassle for anyone with just one passport to lose it the day before they travelled anywhere ;)

Re: ETA - Dual citizens must have valid UK passport

But basically....just get a British passport. Or give up British citizenship entirely. It's a lot less hassle than trying to second guess what might or might not be accepted in this initial period....

Re: UK eSim While In USA

As per poster above, I find 3 PAYG is currently about the best deal. 10 pound a month for the months you need it gives you 40gb data in the UK - but also 6GB roaming data in many countries including...

Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

I wasn't being theoretical - all of the above happened. No one accused me of being a criminal, no one denied my claim, and noone questioned my at the time address of record in the UK of 30 years. Why...

Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

Have you looked at the concept of 'Ordinary Residency'? While the UK Government no longer uses it for tax purposes, they do still acknowledge that is possible to be ordinarily resident in more than...

Re: Non UK resident driving your own car

Being resident in more than one country is the way I've always perceived it. Despite being in the US for 20+ years, I always kept my UK driving licence (and bank accounts, etc) registered to my...

Re: No more class II NICs for those living abroad

Yep. Each contributory year is worth roughly 6 pounds a week to the pension. In my case now I've paid up, I'm 3 years shy of the full current 230.25 a week (I've got my 35 years in now, but also need...

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

Just a quick follow up with this - at some time within the last two weeks (I have been roughly checking every other week or so), my credits all the way to 2006 have been reflected in my record, so...
