So having now just gone back TPA-LGW, its not as much the (minor) hassle catch-22 as it was my multileg through/transit flight originating from outside either country. As you say, you just now have to put the US passport in for US to UK allowing for online check in. There is an option to change the passport on the BA website under the Manage a Booking, which I have just done, hence shouldn't have any problems on return to Tampa.

So, I change my passport details to my UK one....and then it tells me I still can't checkin on line as I have no ESTA details on file for the US!! Bah. Airport check in desk it is then.

Hopefully they will adjust their website to factor all this in at some point in future.

Just went to United’s site to upload a new passport into my profile, and noticed they had an option for up to 2 to be loaded. Hopefully more airlines will follow.

United's app and website is consistently one of the best I've used
