A feeling of genuine sadness seems to pervade this thread. But you know what, I have begun relate to and also begun to understand some of the feelings expressed here. I was not born here nor raised...

On the advice of a reliable insurance agent my Dad decided on Plan G. The monthly premium is $193.46 at the present time. And and an additional roughly $ 36....

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Not so fast, Lansbury. I don't think you're going to be saving very much. I think you have to pay something like $ 139 each to Medicare. Basically, Medicare covers only 80%. And then there's the...

Re: Just another cursed expat!

I think I see what you are getting at. And in that sense it could be scary for any foreigner. Seattle is also more cosmopolitan. Here the people tend to be more secular. Except that I have family...

Re: Just another cursed expat!

What dragons in Eastern Washington  Just looked under my bed and out in the yard and everywhere, don't see any

But you could be right. My brother decided a few months after he...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Yep, one of the reasons we decided on this particular vehicle was the low cost of fuel. Now we find ourselves using it more and more for the same reason. Even when we go out together. Except when...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

We're taking my Suzuki to the dealership for our first 90 day free service on Monday. It has only 528 miles on it. According to hubby the manufacture's recommendation is an oil change every seven...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

At the end of the day, the choice is yours, Some people wash their cars only once a year and that's hard on the paint. Winter driving takes it's toll on the oil as the engine takes longer to warm...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Very true! My father does his own oil changes. His norm is 3,000 miles or twice a year whichever comes first. Once in the spring and then again in the fall is his norm now. He's not into driving...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Yes, it was the US that I was talking about. If we were to drive to NY city from where we are (although we prefer to fly such long distances) it's 3,000 miles one way. Besides, it's better to have...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Twice a year is fine as long as you use it just for running around town. 3000 miles would be the norm if you were driving long distance a lot i.e.. more mileage racked up.

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Re: You know you've been in the US too long when...

Exactly! Even back then Congress could derail the best of intentions!
