Re: I want to advise my co-tenants not to shoot themselves in the foot - how?

Oh it was just my mistake. It’s an employer transfer with a huge German company, the most famous one (wink) so I think it’s all legit.

Re: I want to advise my co-tenants not to shoot themselves in the foot - how?

I’ll be saying all this. Thank you! I just found a local tenants union that has surgeries on Wednesdays! I’l forward it now.

My visa description was wrong, I meant H1b and whatever the partner...

Re: I want to advise my co-tenants not to shoot themselves in the foot - how?

Thats a good approach. Thanks. Yes they did indicate they want to apply for a green card and to buy a house here (if they can’t get used to the heat). I don’t know about immigration status but a...

Re: I want to advise my co-tenants not to shoot themselves in the foot - how?

Thats interesting. I didn’t know that. Maybe they should ask the landlord if they can pay for the repair and use the rent money to do that. I think that might be a German way of doing things - they...

Cool Re: I want to advise my co-tenants not to shoot themselves in the foot - how?

Yeah, when I did that, I got a look that indicated I was being condescending because I've been here longer than them. I wonder whether I should direct them to a lawyer who will say the same as me,...

I want to advise my co-tenants not to shoot themselves in the foot - how?

We've been here (California) a couple of years now, but we recently took on (rented) a property with a guest house on it with a recently arrived (3 months ago) couple (its one lease for a main house...

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

Well, I was in two minds about whether to pay or not, hence the post. Actually, my first thought was, oh its just £300, I'll pay it (and there is still a part of me that thinks that!), but as Geoff...

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

No, the CCJ was already awarded but the defendant has 28 days to pay before it is lodged by the court (although the debt collectors said 7 days).

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

I don’t have a problem with supplying my address as I’d rather contest the claim. I don’t believe it is justified. In any case as the court has no jurisdiction outside the UK (well, England and...

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

FYI, if you are following this thread and are in a similar position - I posted this to the legal beagles forum (so helpful!). I was advised to NOT pay and to apply to have the judgment set aside....

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

Thanks to everyone that responded. This is still ongoing. I have contacted (emailed) the debt collectors but received no response. I imagine they don't believe me when I say I live overseas! I'm sure...

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

Yes you’re right. Although we did use Royal Mail ‘s service and so much did not get through. Plus there is a max forwarding period of a year which would not have helped in this case.

Re: 7 days from a CCJ back in England!

That's a good idea. But, who to though? The court? I've never had one of these before.

7 days from a CCJ back in England!

Just received an email from a debt collector asking me to pay £270 or I will have a CCJ on my record.

Back story....
About 18 months ago, we emigrated to the US (LA). We always leased a car from...

Re: Our EB1A journey

We did consular processing so there was no need. Is that what you're doing?

Hmmm. I *think* I know what those words mean...
Since we don't know the OPs situation, probably best not to provide them with incomplete information.

Re: Tried to get a car under VW's foreign lease - failed

Yes, we took all the documentation and even though they verified the income (LOL they even called my University in Manchester!!), they still weren't giving us a lease without a cosigner!

Re: The chicken/egg question.

Not true. My husband and I both obtained green cards without a job lined up. If you meet the criteria for EB1A (and get a good lawyer), it's possible. Now we're here, we are in a better situation...
