You do not put anything into writing. Your lawyer puts things into writing.

Make sure you are in the right (legally) before proceeding.

It has been said a few times (once already by me), do not write anything in a letter or email unless through your own attorney.

You've been kind and offered advice.
Just be aware that you also do not want to have a bad relationship with your landlord.
Stay out of it!
