Re: Citizenship Application Timeline

Which Federal minister is in charge ? Maybe a news program on TV could interview this person and get an explanation. At the moment there is just a process of ignoring any criticism altogether.

Re: Citizenship Application Timeline

I submitted over 12 months ago.
Latest, I still have LANGUAGE and TEST to complete even though I am over 80 and have a degree from a UK university.

Should be exempt from both at my age I think ?

Re: Investment Ideas

The TFSA GIC's I took out with Scotiabank have shown next to nothing after 3 years. Can I transfer them or can I start new TFSA's with an independent advisor like Edward Jones ?

Re: UK state pension- bank charges?

You can do it yourself and get a better rate. I use UKForex and have it transferred direct to my account with Scotiabank. No charges either end.

Re: Goggle box- anything worth watching on TV?

I find that UK TV shows screened on Canadian TV have an awful sound quality. The background music is invariably too loud and often obscures the dialogue.

Perhaps it is because the UK uses PAL and...

Re: Income Tax 'season'

Got my 2017 assessment today. All OK.

My wife, however had a note saying she had exceeded her Taxfree " room" and "may" have to pay 1% a month every month until she reduces the taxfree GIC. Her...

Re: Income Tax 'season'

Last year went to H&R Block who charged $461.66 for my self and wife's returns.
This year I did them with Turbotax for $62.13 and it was very easy and straightforward.
I even think it was better...

Thanks a lot.
When I file on the net, do I have to send copies of UK pension and Building society interest or do I just put the total and wait for a request for the paperwork. I suppose I could...

Hi Gorleen,

My wife and I are in our first full tax year and are in our mid seventies like you.

Re: Calling the UK

I am with Rogers and my calls to the UK are just 10cents/minute anytime/anyday.
They even rang me to say Rogers has a way to reduce this to 5cents/minute if I change my contract. I didn't bother.

In the UK I was allowed to take 5% of the initial lump sum invested tax free every year.
In effect this meant that over 20 years I will have been...

Re: Movies - 2018 Strikes Back

Recommend "The Post" for lovers of good stories.
Well acted .
The first 5 minutes in Vietnam set the scene.
Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep's wigs were amazing.

Last month a woman ran into us on a roundabout ( drivers haven't got used to them yet )
Completely her fault...

We live in Ottawa and got fully comp for both of us with Cooperators for under $1000.

No fuss and our UK history accepted without question.

Re: Tax relief on UK pension income limited to 10%?

I looked it up today and it seems to be just property or any investments connected to property.
I think a Swiss villa would be included, especially if you are a government minister !
It would also...

Re: Tax relief on UK pension income limited to 10%?

No quick answer then !
Difficult to talk to CRA about things like this.

I wondered if anyone has the answer ?
