Re: UAE ICPC ACCRO Police Certificate- Please help

I was involved in international school recruitment several years ago and we definitely used Enhanced DBS checks provided via umbrella bodies in the UK.
So I was going to say you are wrong, but I...

Re: UAE ICPC ACCRO Police Certificate- Please help

It's strange that any international school would want an ARCO police check. ARCO's main purpose is for visa/ residency applications (unless they want it for that).
They should get a DBS Enhanced...

Re: Egypt - Need Advice

Thanks for this good information. I've already been told about the PAYE system.

I think 1,000 USD in going to be a fair bit out of my price range. I'll probably be looking at closer to half that...

Re: Egypt - Need Advice

My office will be in Mohandeesin. I suppose living there or Zamalek would be fine for a relatively short commute.
He has a working visa, but told me they took time to arrange it.

I will obviously...

Re: Egypt - Need Advice

Thanks for this reply. I was wondering if anyone in Egypt was on here.
You're right that their suggestions are far from Gulf levels

I already know I will be working near the 26th July corridor on...

Egypt - Need Advice

Hi all,
Egypt is not often spoken about on this forum so I am looking for advice.

Out of the blue, an ex-colleague contacted me with a job offer in Cairo. The company is totally legitimate so...

Re: Considering moving to Doha

I'd just like to say thank you to DXBtoDOH (https://britishexpats.com/forum/members/dxbtodoh-239202/)for his great advice.
I decided not to take the role in the end. TBH, I wondered if my refusal...

Re: Considering moving to Doha

I guess so. Perhaps it has something to do with lowering the end of contract bonus?
Having had a look on Uber, random journeys in Doha seem to be around the 10-15 QAR mark. 550 is enough for 36-55...

Re: Considering moving to Doha

OK, so I spoke to the company to get more details. I should point out this is a western company too and not a local one.

Housing allowance - They said that it is accountable and they will only...

Re: Considering moving to Doha

It says that it is an accountable allowance of up to 6,000QAR to cover rent excluding utilities. Like I said, I've never lived in the ME, but it is how it worked before when I had a housing allowance...

Re: Potentially moving to Dubai

I don't know Dubai, but two kids and no school fees sounds like a very bad idea to me. Your kids will almost certainly need to go to a British curriculum school which will not come cheap.
You...

Re: Considering moving to Doha

I've just been looking at the contract. Housing allowance is 6000 QAR accountable so couldn't save any of that if I wanted to.

I've never been in real debt in my life. I own my own home in the UK...

Re: Considering moving to Doha

Thanks for the reply.
I'll be honest, I made a sideways career move just pre-Covid that didn't work out at all (thanks Covid!). I'm currently in an allied area earning not much more than £25k before...

Considering moving to Doha

Hi all,
I am a fairly young guy in my late 20s and single.
I am currently considering a position in Doha, Qatar.
The package offered is reasonable, if not brilliant. 11500 QAR per month plus 6000...

Re: Moving to HK location advice wanted

I'm currently in Hong Kong atm.

Your housing allowance in VERY generous (It's like 210,000 US Dollars per annum!). You'll be able to get a lot of space, even in very pricey Hong Kong.

I would...

Smile Expat Life in Naples (Maybe Rome)

Hi,

My company have asked me to internally apply for a role in Naples, Italy (or potentially Rome). I won't apply until August, and then wouldn't start until January next year, but I want to look...
