Re: Considering moving to Doha
I guess so. Perhaps it has something to do with lowering the end of contract bonus?
Having had a look on Uber, random journeys in Doha seem to be around the 10-15 QAR mark. 550 is enough for 36-55 of those journeys. I'm not sure if I'd prefer a car or not.
Now that sounds like an awkward, if very important, conversation.
I wish Doha had Google Street View as it's very difficult to tell what there areas look like from a satellite map.
With Covid, I wonder how much escaping I would be able to actually do. The package includes one return flight to the UK per annum so that's one holiday almost sorted.
On the last point, I already have tenants living there. It's a very long story, but I am living with my parents at the moment. The income isn't that great to be honest, after taxes and all of the various costs are taken into account, but it's something.

If you feel the need to jump-start your life, the offer is livable and could be the beginning of an adventure. Once on ground and after a year it's doable to find a better role. It'd be tempting to find an all-inclusive 2-bedroom in Sadd (I quickly checked and it's doable) and rent out the spare room for 2-3k to claw back some of your allowances. There's always expats looking for temporary places or wanting to avoid a lease in their name. Up to you.
Regarding redundancy and rental contracts, I had heard that if you are made redundant, the company provides the documentation affirming this and the contract can be made null and void as you're leaving the country with no visa. If you leave the company on your own account, then no luck. But this is from that every shifting and unclear rumour mill.
I assume there will be a grace period where they put you up in a hotel apartment for a few weeks to give you time to find your own place. During that hunt I'd definitely contact all hotel apartments to see if anyone offers month to month leases, and also check out the Kempinski shared apartments in West Bay as I do remember people being offered individual leases per bedroom, and that's a very good place to settle into Qatar.

Re: Considering moving to Doha
I'd just like to say thank you to DXBtoDOH for his great advice.
I decided not to take the role in the end. TBH, I wondered if my refusal would make them up their offer slightly to make it more tempting, however, that didn't happen. Obviously I am not as attractive as I think!
