Re: Moving to HK location advice wanted
We had a great 3 bed house with nice garden front and back and a shared swimming pool for HK$35k per month.
It was north of Sai Kung on Tai Mong Tsai Rd iirc. It was 16 years ago though.
So you won't need to worry too much.
In those days it was possible to have your accommodation allowance paid in full, you spent what you wanted to on accommodation and banked the remainder. So we saved HK$40k per month on accommodation even though we had exactly what we wanted.
Dunno if that sort of thing is still possible.

That area is still going for around 50 to 80K very nice area to live and was out last area before heading off into the sunset in Malaysia. Brilliant place to live for us and the kids, Hiking on the doorstep.........ahh happy memories
A few new houses up there these days as well but still off the beaten track. Easy to get car parks included in the rent as well right next to your house. Cashing in the balance is wise well agreed, if possible, to cover future rent increases which will happen.
Watch out for school fees as well. Last I heard the ESF had lost the government subsidy.

My 2 cents worth.
Your housing allowance is more than generous. You can pretty much live anywhere in HK in a house with garden, except perhaps on the Peak.
Schooling has to be your number 1 focus. School places are scarce and have been for several years now. You need to sort this out now. Once you have sorted out schooling you can then sort out housing.
