Re: Smartphones

The same company will totally do it for us. We would then have keypads and zones, it would cost about $400 to set up, and would be the same annual charge. I haven't even mentioned it to my husband...

Re: Would you have come to America ...

I used the word "here" because America (and England) are all I know. I didn't mean to infer that this type of abuse happens only here.

Hideous domestic abuse indeed.

Re: Smartphones

True, though it's never happened to us. I would like to go cellular, but my husband likes it just the way it is.

Re: Smartphones

Our home alarm system is wired to the landline. Yes, we could change this, but it's worked well for 30 years. (Except when the phone is down.)

Re: HBO NOW

HBO Now will cost me $14.99 a month. I've always wanted an HBO subscription, but not bundled in with other channels. So I am very happy. Before I got my new TV I tried and failed to hook up ROKU.

Re: Pet Peeves?

Mr. Pulaski would say without meaning.

LOL. Had to think about that for a second. Brilliant!

No way. Never noticed that. On the other hand, I am always amused by Brit reporters'...

Re: Would you have come to America ...

My point exactly. I see this a lot here, especially when the wife is naive and much younger. She relies on her husband for everything and, eventually, is unable to think for herself.

Re: Smartphones

Isn't there a law against that?

I can relate since my IPad has the same amazing capabilities.

Re: Would you have come to America ...

Not always the best arrangement. Makes for an isolated life and an over-dependence on one's spouse.

Re: Pet Peeves?

Aka synonyms. You sound like Big Brother in Orwell's novel: wanting to strip the language bare.

It's pithy.

Lucky.

Re: Pet Peeves?

If you eliminated "made up words" from the vocabulary, there wouldn't be much left. How do think a language evolves?

Haven't a clue. Been here way too long.

Only if you have a Gitanes cigarette hanging out of your mouth.

Great story!

Re: Pet Peeves?

I always say railroad station.

Irregardless is a perfectly good word that I like to use on occasion.

Re: Pet Peeves?

To say "that have signs in kilometers". What is wrong with "train station"?

Your instead of you're - makes me cringe.

Amusing snippet on the radio the other day: there is a trend here now...

Re: Would you have come to America ...

Thanks for posting that. I just could not be fagged to look for it.

There are plenty of American citizens who can neither read nor write. (Being facetious.)

Re: Pet Peeves?

Very cool. Did you happen to see The Fall? Brilliant show set in Belfast. I love it.

The Fall (TV Series 2013– ) - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294189/?ref_=nv_sr_1)

That sounds...

Arrow Re: Would you have come to America ...

Exactly the point of my OP. Citizenship is not out of the question if she speaks Spanish only (depending upon her age or how many years she has been here) but as to her being illiterate, does that...

Re: Pet Peeves?

I was making a joke re Kelvin/Kermit. Oh, well, I thought it was amusing.

Coconut oil, surely, is very greasy? My face would probably be covered with bugs by the time I return home.

So you live in Canada, not NJ? (Or maybe you are visiting there.)
