Actually, opening an account w/o SSN was a piece of cake. Went to Wells Fargo, presented my passport, employment letter and that was it. Walked out with a debit card and an account.

Electronics as a general rule are ok and more often than not are designed for US/Europe. I would say that if the back plate says 220V then the unit will not work on 110V because if it worked on 110V...

What are your experiences with getting motor insurance shortly after arriving to the US in the sense that the insurers consider credit rating? Obviously, on arrival one has no credit rating.
