Re: Charles XII of Sweden

I think if the Norwegians really haven't forgiven the Swedes for something, then it could be more to do with Sweden's supposed 'neutrality' in WWII.

Re: The Midlands

The trouble with a thread like this is that some maybe focus only on negative aspects to a place and dismiss it.

Birmingham has, in recent years, had a ‘makeover’, after some of the results of...

Re: Organic tobacco in ÖREBRO...

I don’t indulge, so I’m no expert on Swedish tobacco shops. However my work colleague used to buy his tobacco from Germany. There are online tobacconists who will ‘ship’ to Sweden. (Don't know what...

Re: Do the maths

Interesting.

I watched an SVT news programme (a few weeks ago now) concerning the rising costs, to kommuns (municipal councils), due to the immigration surge. Only a few kommuns were reported to...

Re: Systembolaget - State Liquor Store

(From their website) Systembolaget exists for one reason: To minimize alcohol-related problems by selling alcohol in a responsible way, without profit motive.

In reality, its just there to...

Re: First post - moving to Sweden

Blocket may be useful in giving an overview of what apartments are available – but yes, its true: there are scams of the ‘Pay First’ variety.

I’ve only ever used Blocket once – to buy a second...

Re: First post - moving to Sweden

I take it you’ve already done all the serious planning of finances, language learning, negotiating your way through Swedish bureaucracy (etc)

You could check out this website...

Re: Paying top-up NI contributions

You are correct.

I haven’t reached state retirement age – probably not so many UK organisations now allow retirement at 50+, but mine did.

I was simply trying to suggest another dimension to...

Re: Paying top-up NI contributions

Nowhere in my post did I maintain what I might have been entitled to, but the link for the state pension statement is useful - so I will see what info that gives me.

Re: Paying top-up NI contributions

It was 2011 when I last obtained a pension statement, from HMRC. Then, I was told I had the required 30 years contributions - entitling me to a full state pension.

Like Meinkl, I haven’t got 35...

Re: Moving to Sweden, what problems lay ahead?

Your passport should be accepted, Annabel, (don't know about anywhere else) but if you're collecting mail from a postal pick up point then Posten (now Postnord's) rules apply on identity...
