Due...

Re: Back to Canada solo.... family stay in UK

Thanks Shard, good points. You are quite right, we think too much about these things. Once underway, you take the reigns and go with it. It seems ironic I was having second thoughts as I know the...

Re: Back to Canada solo.... family stay in UK

I should clarify it doesn't need to be the UK you go to retire/see your grown up kids, as you said, could be in Canada, Oz or elsewhere.

Re: Back to Canada solo.... family stay in UK

Don't know about the border collie, though nice dogs:) I was thinking more along the lines of being closer to grandkids /family anywhere in the UK. Though yes, we can't follow the kids around per...

Re: Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) Continue.....

Thanks again Jon. I'll take a look at the website. Yes RSPs seem to be a good option overall, given the employer contributes and there's some tax relief. Though yes you get taxed to some extent...

Re: Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) Continue.....

I see. Thanks again JonboyE, you're a mind of information on these things:)
So basically if you had 15 years then moved to another country, CPP would pay you based on calculations for the 15 year...

Re: Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) Continue.....

Thank you JonboyE.
Very useful to know. My total contributions will likely be 15 to 20 years if I reach retirement age. I think 20 years is required if you plan to draw the pension outside...

Re: Do you return? The joys of emigrating...

Hi Scilly,

Thanks for sharing that. Good points.
It's great you've made it work.
Yes for airfares, it's bazaar it costs more to fly within Canada to NS than to the UK from Vancouver. Sounds...

Re: Moving back to the UK from BC (victoria)

Hiya Duncan and all,
Can't recommend Bekins. Awful, and gave a wildly overpriced quote. But it looks like you have other companies to choose from
Cheers and Good Luck.

Re: Moving back to the UK from BC (victoria)

Hiya,

Please Don't Use Bekins (Parksville on Vancouver Island). Dreadful. They were pushy and the quote was badly calculated, they tried to charge a lot more on the day. Staff not friendly. I'm...

Re: Back in the UK for 9 months and decided we made the wrong choice!

Hi Manchester,

Just wondered what made you move back to the UK? I can understand you wanting to return, but think about your reasons to return. Must've been a good motivator. For me I came back...

Re: Citizenship whilst in UK....?

Hiya,

Re: Un-happy in Canada!

That's a good point. Yes I've found that too. I spent time in Vancouver and Victoria, there's a veneer of friendliness but seems difficult to make real friends. I often chatted to people you see...
