Re: Compassionate flights - are they available

So sorry to hear about that. We were upgraded on the trip home when my mum passed away. It was a good few years ago though and I don't know how they found out, just from me ringing to book the...

Re: Living on $40k a year

Thanks so much, always great to hear from someone with something to add to the thread rather than someone just jumping in to try to start an argument. I agree with you, it doesn't have to cost much...

Re: Living on $40k a year

That's fantastic, you're adapting extremely well by the sounds of it. Start investing if you can, while you're young and you should soon have money to spare after all bills :fingerscrossed:

Re: Living on $40k a year

That's a bugger, although you may be able to get around it. There are many lovely and parts of Aus where they can't get anyone to work. Your hubby would be in demand I would have thought.

Re: Living on $40k a year

I know exactly what you mean Bevs. We lived in NZ over 10 years ago, hubby couldn't get a job and I worked an 80hr fortnight for peanuts in a job requiring a degree. I can remember putting tins of...

Re: Well that's that...

Good luck Matt, I've read your posts since early on. We had similar experiences and in the end we left, made money elsewhere and will return for holidays and/or retirement. It depends on individual...

Re: Living on $40k a year

Thanks for that! It seems to work on paper but just wanted reassurance. Worst case scenario I'd fly back to Aus for a short contract to pay for non average costs. Going to try it from Feb next year...

Living on $40k a year

I know it's different for everyone but does anyone think it would be possible for 2 adults with no rent/mortgage to live comfortably on $40k net a year? We don't have any car loan etc so would just...

re: Somewhat off topic posts split from Jitters about moving to NZ>

Wow, the original post wasn't a helpful response but to repost it with it's own heading of 'unhelpful post' for everyone else to comment on wtf?

Re: Getting Jitters about moving to NZ

Just a brief reply to your comment that property in Australia is too expensive. Australia is HUGE. Are you talking about Sydney and Melbourne? I love Aus and NZ. We're currently living in regional...

Re: Moving to Queenstown

I was nearly going to say, lucky the OP isn't also considering another country or someone will drag up his post and accuse him of not knowing which country he wants to move to. I've seen that happen...

Re: Moving to Queenstown

Agreed, and I wouldn't mind but if you look at some of the past posts of those making accusations of the guy not being organised they're not exactly great thinkers or very well organised themselves.....

Re: Selling a year old fridge!

Have you tried advertising it locally-in the local paper/supermarket with hand over date? We had a garage sale before we left and the whole village turned up. It's worth a try. We've also...

Re: Advice
