Living in the state for more than 3 months certainly is a benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents.

I did not have to do a 3 point / K turn. Hand signals, drive around a bit, stop at the curb, reverse along the curb, back to the DMV building. It was not hard, and the test official was very nice. ...

Thanks all :D. One more thing though... DO NOT hand the person behind the desk your british license after you pass... Tell her it is in the car or something... I did and she punched a hole in it...

DO NOT DRIVE THERE... THERE IS NO PARKING. The only reason I did not get clamped / towed...

I am actually tempted just to pay for the consular processing part for Visanow just to deal with it and get the docs to me... Work paid almost 4k to get this far, and now they are balking at $300...

I agree... You will probably unfortunately be charged to India, since this is where you were born. My L1 actually states that I was born in South Africa, and I expect that I will need to have it...
