Private hospitals in Spain are vultures

I was watching Benidorm ER on TV yesterday, and it occured to me how opportunistic and dishonest their business really is.

They provide no better treatment than could be received at a Spanish...

Re: Car Insurance in Malta

In the UK it is also difficult, if not impossible to get insurance on a powerful car under the age of 25.

Perhaps that is a legacy of British influence in Malta?

Re: Euro Vegas Madrid abandoned

I am very surprised that the project would be abandoned due to something as petty as smoking laws.

If the casino owners want to allow smoking, so be it. Talk about ridiculous state interference.

Where is a safe place to buy property in Southern Europe?

Having read all sorts of negative stories about the property market in Spain, I have become very put off from buying anything there.

Is there anywhere in Southern Europe where the property market...

Buying in South potentially as risky as the North?

I was always under the impression that buying in the Republic of Cyprus was fairly safe and that the problems lie solely in the North.

However, after doing some research, it seems that if a...

Re: Are the Spanish paranoid about crime and security?

I think much of the reason the British don't put security bars on the windows and high fences around the perimeter of their homes is because the neighbours would probably start whinging about how...

Re: Are the Spanish paranoid about crime and security?

I have noticed there seems to be a heavy anti-Eastern European sentiment in Spain.

They are seen as nothing but thieves and thugs and most cases of thefts and burglaries are put down to Eastern...

Re: Are the Spanish paranoid about crime and security?

Talk about a chip on ones shoulder!

Give it a rest, you don't have to be openly ashamed of your nationality all the time.

Are the Spanish paranoid about crime and security?

I have noticed that pretty much all houses and businesses in Spain have bars on the windows. Even in the most rural villages where you would think crime wasn't a huge problem, bars on the windows are...

Why is the British media so anti-Spain?

The latest economic news in Spain is that unemployment has fallen slightly, possibly signalling a recovering. Whether that is sustainable remains to be seen, but a fall in unemployment can only be a...

Re: Guardia Civil shooting in Gib waters

Sounds much like the way British politicians manipulate numbers to make the unemployment figures look lower.

I suspect if we knew the full scale of unemployment in the UK it would be a shock.

Re: Convalidating a PGCE-QTS Spain

Earlier on you were insisting that Spanish degrees are much more academically rigorous than British degrees, so why don't the university rankings reflect this?

It could be due to the rankings...

Re: Weedy topic!

How about because alcohol is totally different in its nature from most other illegal drugs?

The vast majority of people are able to drink alcohol in moderation, know when they've had too much and...

Re: Guardia Civil shooting in Gib waters

Which is why I said Southern England.

Of course not all of Spain is cheap, but huge parts of Southern Spain are and that's what attracts so many British expats.

Re: Guardia Civil shooting in Gib waters

There are still plenty of good deals to be had, you've just got to take your time in choosing and double check everything everyone tells you, be they the seller, the agent or even your own lawyer.

Re: Convalidating a PGCE-QTS Spain

Furthermore, as you rightly state, the effective tax rate on graduates will be 60%, which makes it even harder to earn a decent salary from British degree.

Re: Convalidating a PGCE-QTS Spain

I think British universities in general are over-priced for what they offer.

British universities suffer from similar problems that you describe Spanish universities as having. Huge lectures and...

Re: Convalidating a PGCE-QTS Spain

Surely you would think that if Spanish higher...

Re: Weedy topic!

I think a valid case could be made for the legalization of marijuana for medical use, but I remain to be convinced that a total legalization of marijuana for recreational use is the answer.

Re: Guardia Civil shooting in Gib waters

All are considerably more expensive than Southern Spain.

The appeal of Spain for many expats is that you can buy a decent size house for the price of a 1 bedroom flat in Southern England.

I suspect it has something to do with so many members of the...

Re: Convalidating a PGCE-QTS Spain

Re: Convalidating a PGCE-QTS Spain

Technically all EU member states should honour another EU qualification as being acceptable in place of the other...
