Best way to send a large sum of money from UK to USA?

I've always used Paypal in the past, we have bank accounts in both countries and I just send money to/from the separate linked Paypal accounts. However, it's a large sum of money I'll need to send...

I formally abandoned it on entering the US in 2008 (having been gone since 2006).

Well, at least I won't have to apply for an SSN when I get to the States this time... that's a small positive!...
