The companies I worked for in and around Silicon Valley would only give information on job title and beginning and end dates. Companies usually check before making an offer.

Thank you Holy and Pistolpete2. I had the distinct impression that the surgery staff were making my registration more difficult than it should have been. I doubt if they had read the NHS website...

Just an update on my attempt to register with a GP. My local NHS doctor's surgery staff have told me I need to find out my NHS number before I can be registered. I only have a National Insurance...

Yes, the world is not flat, although I do feel closer to the UK when I'm in Florida than I do at home in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Ian, I was surprised that comparing the cost and flight times from Sacramento and Tampa to London Heathrow there wasn't that much difference between the two!

Check out the commute times and find out if there are planned highway maintenance projects. A 40 minute commute can easily change into 90+ minutes with accidents, on holidays, friday afternoons etc...

I don't think anyone mentioned that in US companies the typical starting vacation allowance is just 10 days per year for the first five years. So even if you are swimming in disposable income...

Thank you all for your quick responses. The doctors' surgery has asked me to contact my former GP and get my new NHS number (rather than the National Insurance number). Wish me luck with that!...
