Re: State Pension value in US $ since Brexit.

I have never paid Fed or State taxes but that's of little comfort when the amount keeps declining every 4 weeks!

There's always the possibility that some EU countries are waiting to see if the UK...

Unhappy State Pension value in US $ since Brexit.

I know I can't be the only person who's experienced the loss in value of the UK State Pension since Brexit was announced. Once converted my pension has declined by about 20%, is everyone having...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

As you have 40 quarters of employment in the US you should be eligible for the amount of SS quoted on the regular statements you have been receiving from SSA. The UK pension is going to be treated...

Re: US taxation on UK pension

Having started my 2013 return I note that there are changes in line #s. If you're itemizing the form is now 1040A and the line you report Pensions & Annuities is 12a and 12b not 16a and b as in...

Re: Exchange rates and The UK State Pension

Don't forget that when you turn 66 you are allowed a greater amount that you can earn, if collecting SS, it's now over $40k and at 67, if I'm not mistaken, your income is not limited at all.

Re: Exchange rates and The UK State Pension

That would be correct, so effectively it would still have been a 15% after being WEP'ed.

Re: Exchange rates and The UK State Pension

When I took SS at 62 I was paid the full amount as if I had no other retirement income expected, I just didn't mention it.

When I started collecting in 2013 and advised them of that fact they...

Re: Exchange rates and The UK State Pension

When you originally apply for SS you are asked if you will be receiving any other pensions etc, they then adjust your monthly payment accordingly if you do not have a full 30 years of meaningful...

Re: Exchange rates and The UK State Pension

I started claiming at 62 and at that time had not even considered the fact that I would be eligible for UK pension. In July of '13 they WEP'd me when I started to receive it and at that time the $...

Exchange rates and The UK State Pension

When I received the letter telling me how much per 4 weeks I would be receiving I reported it to SSA.

The figure I reported is now more as a result of:

- The fact that it's paid 4 weekly and...

Re: Trader Joe's, Aldi and Lidl Food Stores in the USA

Aldi stores should not be dirty or distasteful and if I found one I would call the health dept. However, you have to remember this is one of the few food stores that Walmart fears. They sell basic...

Re: US taxation on UK pension

I don't think there's much chance of that, I only work part time if I want or need to (to keep me from vegetating) I just want to stay on the right side of the Fed. Gov!

Re: US taxation on UK pension

Good to know. As you said it is passive income however SSA was not very confident in their explanation when I spoke with them and advised me it would be treated within the earnings allowance. Like...

Re: US taxation on UK pension

In the event that I may exceed the earnings allowance, even fractionally, I guess the IRS will pass that on to SSA and my payments will be adjusted accordingly.

The good news is that they have...
