Re: Share ISA / PFIC - long term hold

Unfortunately I ran into so many different walls with this that i didn't find a solution before I moved on with life, and left the isa as cash.

Still occasionally trying to figure out a simple...

Re: Share ISA / PFIC - long term hold

Re: Share ISA / PFIC - long term hold

I'll look at Gilts, but I dubious about Hargreaves Lansdown offering individual govt bonds, but maybe.

I have looked at HL funds that are US Registered with UK/HMRC reporting, and there are some,...

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

So do you think there is a catch / it makes sense if I look to do 2 years of contributions simultaneously for a traditional IRA (non-deductible) with a soon to follow backdoor roth?
(I have 2015 &...

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

Interesting point - thanks - so basically there could be additional benefits of using individual / sole accounts if there is a spouse that has been a non-working party relative to the main earner...

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

This makes sense and was broadly what I was hoping was possible. In the same way create a taxable investment account where the withdrawals are managed to keep the marginal rate to a minimum.

Of...

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

I was hoping we would get the benefit of the deductions. If not, then is what your saying we don't take (can't take) deductions but do immediate rollover 'Backdoor Roth'? (We are well above the AGI...

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

So what would the benefit of doing this rollover? Surely better to optimise income withdrawals over time to minimize tax...?

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

Re: 401k/IRA/Roth - a sensible strategy for our circumstances?

Thanks. I did some follow up research on your comments. So first step is to max the 401k allowance of $18k, then a Roth or traditional IRA with a limit of $5.5k for my age group in either one of...
