Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Btw, the topic has moved in from life/work to innovation....others have found it interesting, but if you don't go find one that you do find...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Its a shame some people can't listen to a few negative facts about the country in a forum where most people would have a negative thought or two.

There would be negative and positive aspects of...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Who's talking business? No one would understand a word I'm talking about if I started talking business. Your museum is a good example. Theoretically lets say I was interested in that.....I love...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

the question is vague for a reason-you've just met. i think the question youve answered is...how are you?

another way of asking is....who are you, or what's ur story and questions to the same...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Errrr....living expenses are from money (last I checked), and I've already mentioned money as an incentive. Unless you have both money and living expenses as seperate incentives, in which case I may...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Yes I agree, but doesn't that apply to everyone? If you don't enjoy the work, or the money then there is no incentive - there has to be at least one of those, in whichever category - preferably...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Interesting, so theoretically speaking, if your employer were to pay you for what you consider "pleasure", you would become more productive at what you consider work, and be willing to do it for...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

say that to Kurt Cobain and Richey Edwards, to name a couple....perhaps a different kind of stress.

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Really? I've met hundreds....to not meet any your encounters must be limited to those only on minimum wage. You've never met an actor, lawyer, CEO/CTO, doctor, inventor, entrepreneur??, the list...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

I'm afraid that wasn't exactly the point I was trying to make. The context here is British expats in USA. Most of such people had to go through a lot of trouble (H1-B, EB-1, and other visas), even...

Re: "work to live" vs "live to work"

Well, maybe
but given the name of this website "British Expats", and this forum (USA) I'm expecting most people on here will be British who have, or want to move to the USA. Aside from those who...

"work to live" vs "live to work"

After reading many of the threads over the past couple of months I've seen many people compare the work ethics of UK/US in terms of living to work and working to live so I thought the topic deserved...

Re: Is it worth moving it? Advice please. :)

That worries me when I see it in the UK....I still find unattended petrol stations where you just swipe your card before feilling up with petrol, there isn't even a key pad to enter the pin. For...

Re: Lack of holiday - how did you adjust?

Personally I don't think that is the problem.
If average person works say 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 4.3 weeks a month, 12 months a year - then it doesn't really matter if you take off 15 days,...

Re: Is it worth moving it? Advice please. :)

I agree it sounds a little silly when taken out of context but what I was trying to say is that I already have plans for everything else (car, computers, tv furniture etc) so the only things left are...

Re: Lack of holiday - how did you adjust?

Most (if not all) companies I've worked for in the UK are the same, but then I mostly work for large multinational companies. In general it would only be these large companies who are willing to...

Re: Is it worth moving it? Advice please. :)

myself and my wife are in a similar situation.

I'm using this as an opportunity to get rid of a lot of stuff that I've been to lazy to part with.
Most stuff will go on ebay, some will be binned,...

Right, but as someone mentioned I can still work when I'm visiting the UK without any issues. One question though - what actually constitutes "work"?
So I send emails to customers, and to...

Making money in both countries.

Hi all,

for those of you who remember my original thread I was considering a role in California. I have since been offered the role, made some negotiations and accepted. If all goes well with...
