It depends on what you mean by "take home". I think you also need to be a British Citizen other than by descent.

If you mean for a visit then they can enter the UK using their US passports -...

May 3 - Arrived in DC

Oh to have the option to send our applications to the UK. I would have happily paid for courier service each way to avoid this trauma.
