You may want to check out First Direct on-line banking, IMO they provide excellent service. Safety deposit box is not as common as in US & Canada. good luck with your return.

According to my limited knowledge, new to Canada myself:

Beds/Mattresses - Sleep Country / Ikea
Curtains/Curtain Track - Walmart
Electrical Goods - Best Buy / Future Shops
