Thanks to everyone - just an update, she is expecting her re-entry permit to come through before she was due to travel, her company also agreed to do an official transfer but she's just been offered...

A good point - she needs to talk with them and find out what they can offer, maybe an official transfer with confirmed transfer back to US which would probably mean she can't have as much free time....

She has extended family around the world but her close family is all in the US now so for the forseeable future she would want her residence to be here but she might be travelling as part of her work.

I agree & she has said she will be asking her company for advice as they are a multi-national corporation; they have said she will have no difficulty getting a job with them anywhere they have...

I understand what I think you're saying & I am grateful for all the immigration advice. I don't think it is appropriate for me to explain specifically how travel will aid her career development....

This daughter has only been in USA 2 years so would have to wait till 2017 and she is doing this for career development not a holiday & may not be feasable for her to go if she leaves it another...

LOL - she's 23 and a very impressive lady, owns her own house, started her business single handed and made a profit within first year, is travelling as part of her career development (as well as fun)...

Thanks, yes she was going to apply for a re-entry permit because although only travelling and working in Australia for a year, she might spend 3 months travelling back to US via other countries.

Hi, my children and I are green card holders, my eldest wants to go to Australia to work and travel for a year, part of the time in a temporary capacity with the same world-wide company she works for...

I'm surprised they would take away your UK licence, seems strange to me & maybe that was a mistake on their part. I would think about asking them for it back, it seems to me that they should know...

Thank you so much for the link, it does seem to contradict what we were told by the USCIS official we were interviewed by in VA, he was apologetic about the delay in our processing and about them not...

Thanks for your reply but from what we were told at the 'first' interview, which was how it was described - to change us to permanent status, the 21 year old will get her green card because she came...

I would have been concerned too, had we not been assured at the first interview that my daughter would get her geencard since she entered the USA before she was 21. I assume this is a silly question...

I was looking at thetax guidelines for moving from the UK & see that in some cases people emigrating have to pay CGT on the money...

as others have said, I moved here at end of last year and Barclays & HSBC had no trouble changing my address to my USA one & sending out cards statements directly to here, although I have now...
