Re: Capital Gains Tax

Hi Cyrian,
No it's a different house. I went back to the U.K. for a couple of years then dipped my toe into France again in 2014 but thanks for your reply .

Capital Gains Tax

I bought a fixer-upper in France in 2014 but now, mainly due to ill-health, have to sell up in France. It was intended to be a second home and I am not registered as a resident in France. The French...

Re: Relocating

Dear Folks & Posters,
I think I have enough information now to make a decision about which avenue to take if I do decide to purchase something over in the U.S.
The cost of the health insurance, as...

Re: Relocating

Thanks for your informative reply. I think I'd have to sell at least two of my properties to finance the EB5 option and to be honest, I'd really only rather sell the French one which would not fund...

Re: Relocating

What a brilliant post and no, you're not being harsh at all. I realised that at my age I was probably not going to be an asset to the U.S. economy and that at some stage, bits of my body are going to...

Re: Relocating

I've had offers from the opposite sex but I wouldn't dream of taking them up just to gain a foothold in the States.
I hope the bouncing sheep is not there because I'm Welsh;)

Re: Relocating

Thanks for your helpful reply, particularly the point about retirement visas. The 90 day/holiday home option in the U.S. was something I considered before eventually relocating to France. I don't...

Re: Relocating

Lansbury demonstrated that it is possible for a guy who's taken early retirement and in good health, to be able to obtain health cover and the costs of his cover. - and you will see from my original...

Re: Relocating

But what would be the point of applying for a visa, and jumping through those hoops, if I thought I couldn't afford to live comfortably in the U.S.?
At the moment I'm sounding out/finding out what...

Re: Relocating

My position is I'm 57, taken early retirement (so I'm on a pension), have a house in France (Mimizan), two houses in Wales (Newport & Cwmbran) but wouldn't mind trying the U.S.
I also wouldn't mind...

Re: Relocating

You're probably correct but the visa problem was under my "other hassles" wording. My biggest concern would be being able to afford, without compromising my living standards, the health cover in the...

Relocating

Hi,
I’ve taken early retirement and I’m thinking about relocating from the U.K. to the U.S.A. on a permanent basis. Apart from all the other hassles, the one thing that is deterring me is the...
