When you say there isn't a market for it, am I reading too much into how you've written it, is it that French don't care about it or the Brits are OTT about it and that it's not really necessary?

Personally I put it on a 16A breaker, 2.4kW = just under 11A and mine is 3kW = 13.6A. Also have a 2A breaker to protect the EDF Heure Creuse/Pleine line which was linked to the "Commutateur HC/HP"

I just installed mine, as I understand it the regs say that it has to be wired directly, but I did mine to a junction box as the tank came with a cable already fitted.

So far I've got the new hot water tank and water softener in, got the chimney part orders (thanks guys) now to bring the boiler back into service.

Unfortunately it's concreted in, with a chimney stack on the slab so I have to forget touching the outside. The only other idea I had was using a T on it's side something...

I just looked at your post and went "I'm bloody stupid why didn't I think of that" there is no real need for two heating coils, unless I want the fuel to boost the heat which is unlikely.
