Re: Moving back across the pond after a massive mistake!!!!

Not sure if Boy d was referring to the NW of England or Canada but I live back here in the NW of England and trust me, here in Cumbria life doesn't get much better.

Certainly, fewer places are...

Re: Money Transfer

We have,
We used Caxton to go the other way but they are saying we need to go into the bank to release the funds, which we obviously can't do as we are here in the UK and not in Canada.

Re: Moving back across the pond after a massive mistake!!!!

The UK really isn't in a mess in comparison to so many other places at the moment. Our make do and mend attitude is carrying us through and I have found being back here completely refreshing and much...

Money Transfer

Does anyone know how to transfer money from a Canadian bank account to a UK bank account if you're not in Canada anymore?

We're in the UK and want to transfer our money back to the UK from our RBC...

Re: Canadian Police Recruitment

We scored extra points on our immigration application because my husband was a firefighter; they were desperate for firefighters in Canada at the time aparently.

The reality was that his UK...

Re: NS, whats is the attraction for you?

We've been back home just over a year and being in NS has really given us a new found appreciation for the UK.

Would never deter anyone from trying it but it was an expensive way to find out that...

Re: NS, whats is the attraction for you?

Moved back to the UK after 3 years in NS. So glad to be back in the UK.

NS was nice for a couple of years but harsh, very harsh; weather, social and economic deprivation etc. Culturally not bad...

Re: Flights to Canada

I know they aren't dodgy. They're actually fairly good and I've travelled with them a few times.

It's just that I have always thought that the name sounds like a South American freight airline ;)...

Re: House Insurance Help

Canada, Nova Scotia. I was hoping for either Canadian companies or UK companies, which insure holiday homes.

Re: Flights to Canada

Condor (dodgy name) will start flying into Halifax from May. Their flights are reasonable and they fly Heathrow but it might be worth looking into them.

Re: Have you "Done" Nova Scotia?

Simon's right, employment hubs do dictate geographical areas, which are "livable", particularly in winter. Unless of course you want to go totally off grid, of which I know many people who do.

Re: Have you "Done" Nova Scotia?

I totally agree with everyone who said to travel around.

It's impossible to realise just how tiring driving here can be. Some of the roads are soooo long and quiet with thousands of acres of pine...

Traveling back to the UK

My daughter is heading back to the UK in July for a month. Her passport runs out at the end of November. She was hoping to renew her passport in Liverpool while there and travel back on her new one....

Re: Anyone in Amherst NS?

Right on...Lord Vader, your opinions don't bother me either, just like your attitude. Yes, I most certainly would know where to look for a good meal but downtown Amherst isn't to my taste for sure,...

Re: Anyone in Amherst NS?

I'd say if there is a good chance you will find a job there then as a first step it might be good as getting a job here has its challenges. There is quite a big wealthy/poor divide and it's really...

Re: Anyone in Amherst NS?

There are plenty of places to eat in Sackville and you can buy real food from the Farmer's Market in summer. Parrsboro has some amazing places to eat...albeit in summer only but so much better than...

Re: Anyone in Amherst NS?

Don't do it! Amherst truly is grim. You're either on the right or wrong side of the tracks and there are truly more bums around in Amherst than in Halifax. There are no good shops, a huge ugly strip...

Re: so did anyone move to NS and regret it?

In a word, yes.
In summer, this is a fabulous place, full of tourists, mosquitos and blackflies too mind you and everything is open. Come September and it becomes ghostly. You can't find any cafes...
