Re: Is anyone else massively disappointed in Canada?

You are not being unfair. You certainly have my respect for having the courage and honesty to say what you think - you clearly invested considerable time, effort and money into moving to Canada and...

Re: UK civil litigation lawyer in Canada

Carol, you didn't mention your age in your initial post - I'm assuming that you have a few years PQE. The reality is that, in your field, you will be looking for employment with the big city firms in...

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

xxdb - good for you for calling it as you see it. Sadly, quite unlike some of the posters on this thread who clearly live in a pink and fluffy la-la land where all Canadians are faultless paragons of...

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

Thank you for your kind concern and suggestions, but they're made of ice. Time for me to move on I think.

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

Very difficult to even identify common interests, let alone share them, when they aren't interested enough to talk to you socially, and on the occasions that they do speak on work matters, treat you...

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

Ha! Bastards can't understand a bloody word I say because of my accent which as a Former Lancastrian you will undoubtedly relate to.

Strangest culture I have ever come across. They were...

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

No issue that there are cultural differences, that much is obvious. I don't think most people who emigrate to other countries are stupid enough to think otherwise.

It's the depth of the negative...

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

So, so true. I am in an office of about 75 government lawyers, all of whom are Canadian with one exception - me.

All things considered I think I'd have been better off taking my chances with the...

Re: Differences between Canadian and British people

Back on topic. My 2c worth, based on 5 years residence in Alberta. A lot of you won't like it.

I find Canada cold, in every sense of the word. The Canadians I have had to deal with on a daily...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Re: The new Doctor Who - no spoilers

Re: UK qualified lawyers moving to Vancouver

In my case the LSA struck a committee to consider my application, found "exceptional circumstances" due to my past experience, waived the CPLED and reduced my articling period to the time taken to...

Re: Canada or Britain, if you had a real choice

I think you're right, luck DOES have a lot to do with it, and can certainly make all the difference between a successful move and an unsuccessful one. Being negative or nihilistic about the situation...

Re: Lonely in Cochrane

Hi Shard,

My profession is such that I can't afford to have too many expectations of people - I have to be open-minded and take as I find. However, over and over again I have come across what I've...

Re: New to this forum.

Hi again Bert,

Know both areas well; my mum lives just round the corner from Lane Ends, and I live just off Longsands Lane (all developed now; it's no longer the country lane you will remember!)....
