I spoke to the pet transport people and it looks like the decision has been made for me. It turns out that pets need at least 4hrs to clear between connecting flights!...

Couple of things I've learnt while trying to book the flights;
a) Pets can't travel the weekend (some customs thing)
b) The airline needs the contact details and full address of someone in the USA,...

Yup, by 'temporary' I was just meant it was the 6mth one I received from the embassy.

On it it says "Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year"

That's a good point!

The only problem would be the dogs carrying on ahead of us, but I guess I could bring that up with the pet transport people... or my hubbie could still get that flight and...

Be sure to double check that. it varies from state to state but some require rabies vaccinations before being allowed in, and others you can get it soon after arriving. If you do decide to get them...

Looks like they require a money order rather than a transfer as it is effectively a prepaid cheque.
