Re: My shipping / airfreight experience

And everything's here. :) Seems to be in one piece, although a couple of the boxes weren't as well padded out as they should have been and seem to be a little squashed. But the contents should be...

Re: My shipping / airfreight experience

Well, in case anybody is interested, my packages are finally due to be delivered today. Things were delayed a bit in the UK due to a form apparently being illegible (which is strange, as it was quite...

Re: My shipping / airfreight experience

I did, yes - my boss is fine with it, so that should be alright. But as you say, I imagine I'll have to provide the customs form when I'm in the US before they release the delivery, as the chap who...

Re: My shipping / airfreight experience

Well, I've had my stuff sent to the office - if it's as quick as you guys have said, hopefully things will be ready when I arrive. I printed out the 3299 form and filled it out the other day, so I'll...

Re: My shipping / airfreight experience

Heh, no - I was a student at St Andrews, but am staying with family in North Wales at the moment. I just haven't updated my location on here yet. I'll perhaps wait until I'm in the US to do that. ;)

Re: My shipping / airfreight experience

This has been a very useful thread. I went with Fast Lane for my shipping - booked a collection on Wednesday for today, the DHL van turned up a bit earlier than expected, and according to the...

Re: Minnesota

Hey,

I think you're possibly the first person I've seen on here who's in Minneapolis! After a year or so of planning, applying for a visa, and so on, I'm finally moving there next Tuesday. :)...

Re: Shipping things to the US - customs

I haven't yet - as I say, my intention was to send over a few boxes via a carrier such as FedEx or UPS. Their web site appears to have sections asking for customs value, but I can't see anything...

Shipping things to the US - customs

Hi all,

My apologies if this is covered elsewhere, a basic search didn't seem to bring up too much. I'm moving to the US next week, and wanting to ship out a few items via FedEx or UPS, including...

I got a text the day before; passport arrived as expected the following day.

Re: How Soon Can I Book an Interview at the Embassy?

I took mine, they didn't ask for it. Doesn't hurt to have it though. Otherwise, I think all I took were the items you stated there.

As for national ID number, I left that blank.

Re: How Soon Can I Book an Interview at the Embassy?

The web site (http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/callcenter/h_appointmentletter.html) states that you need "The original, photocopy or facsimile copy of the Notice of Action Form I-797A, B or...

Re: How Soon Can I Book an Interview at the Embassy?

Wow, it seems the US embassy is being incredibly efficient right now - after having my interview yesterday, I just got a text saying my passport is due to be returned tomorrow! :)

Re: How Soon Can I Book an Interview at the Embassy?

I don't know about the H4 thing, I'm afraid, but no doubt somebody else will be able to help.

I'm moving to Minnesota (just as winter will be setting in - that'll be fun!). Rather excited about...

Re: How Soon Can I Book an Interview at the Embassy?

My I-129 petition was approved by USCIS last Monday (California Service Center), the docs arrived at the lawyer by this Monday I believe. She scanned and sent me a copy of the approval notice, and I...

Re: Social Security, Drivers License, Bank Account, Insurance, Apartment

Wells Fargo offers an account for international-types, and say that you don't have to provide the SSN until you arrive. Obviously, you have to provide them with a fair amount of other information...

Re: Social Security, Drivers License, Bank Account, Insurance, Apartment

Mmh, yes, it does seem that way - as I say, it's one of the first things I'm hoping to try to sort out when I arrive. With regards to other things the OP mentioned and the "catch-22" situations, I'm...

Re: Social Security, Drivers License, Bank Account, Insurance, Apartment

I am in pretty much the same situation (same age, too!) as the original poster. In my case, as far as I can tell, Minnesota requires you to sit a driving test within 60 days, although the web site...

Re: H-1B Anyone Applying?

Well, I have my results now, and I have a degree - my H1-B application is going to be sent off next week. It seems the visa numbers have been going up relatively slowly over the past month or so, so...

Re: H-1B Anyone Applying?

Hello all!

I'm new here (although I have lurked a bit over the past few months), but am now in the process of applying for an H1-B visa! I'm a student due to graduate in June, with a job offer in...
