Wow, it seems the US embassy is being incredibly efficient right now - after having my interview yesterday, I just got a text saying my passport is due to be returned tomorrow! :)

Wells Fargo offers an account for international-types, and say that you don't have to provide the SSN until you arrive. Obviously, you have to provide them with a fair amount of other information...
