Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

I haven't insinuated anything.

I have told people here on this forum about my experience. I asked cupoftea about his legal background because he seemed to be insisting that what I had experienced...

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

Look, I have a paper trail, I submitted the documents and my new name is on all my official documents, including, for instance, my carte vitale. That is my experience, as I have said.

Are you an...

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

I believe everything now has to be translated - with an official stamp - in French. Yes, some places may accept untranslated documents, but some may not.

The real fun comes when a place accepts...

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

I changed my given name. Look, it's the name everyone uses on official documents and it is on my carte vitale. If they are using my birth name somewhere, well I haven't seen any evidence of it.

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

They accepted it. It is the name on my carte vitale. Official documents are sent to me in that name. It is what I am officially known as, not a 'nom d'usage'.

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

Well that's how you arrange things in your life and I'm glad it works for you, but that's not how I arrange things in my life.

As I said, though, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks or what you...

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

Because I didn't like the name my parents had given me and I didn't want to be called it and that was that.

Some people are given less than ideal names, you know. And yes, it does matter, it...

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

In England, you can change your given name, not just your surname, you know. In fact, you can change both. You can change them to anything you like as many times you like as long as no fraud is...

Re: Official Documents for certified Translation

A change of name certificate? In my experience, changes of names confuse L'Assurance Maladie something fierce, so be prepared for trouble. The fact that you have a certificate could mean nothing to...

Re: Passport renewals

I'm wondering exactly how this 12-month extension is supposed to work. What sort of extension will be accepted by other countries? If it requires processing the passport, won't it just add more to...

Re: Computer problems

Have you been keeping your anti-virus up to date? It usually catches stuff like this. You haven't clicked on any banner ads or any email links, have you?

Re: British passport renewal

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I'll stop worrying, at least so much. Hopefully, it won't take them long to send the passport.

Re: British passport renewal

Thanks for the quick reply.

The old passport hasn't expired yet, but that really isn't the issue. It's just that lately, couriers seem to want ID if you have to collect it, which he might as he...

British passport renewal

Maybe I'm worrying about nothing, but my husband's British passport is up for renewal. They will only renew it if he sends the original. The problem is that if he does that, how on earth will he be...

Re: I Have A Dream

Yes, things are not great here in France, but the problems can be exaggerated. After all, in France, local areas can offer tax and rent discounts for industries they are trying to grow; they have...

Re: I Have A Dream

There are Indian restaurants in France and they don't just serve British ex-pats.

There are, for instance, according to my Marmiton resto app, 10 Indian restaurants in Lille. One episode of the...

Re: Death and State charges

It"s not a matter of looking after a sick parent on the basis of reward, it's a matter of people not being left homeless and penniless after doing the right thing. Are people supposed to be punished...

Re: Death and State charges

I believe that there is a way in France to disown or disinherit children, but it has to go through the courts. I may be wrong about that, though.

At any rate, I've never agreed with the casual...

Re: LILLE???

I live in Lille. It's a nice place and I can recommend it. As with other places, there are, of course, good and bad parts.

The climate isn't too bad, although the winters can be cold. The...

Re: Birthday cakes in store or otherwise

A vacherin is a meringue with fruit and whipped cream. A vacherin maison would be one that the restaurant made itself. I suppose they bring it out to show it to the guests then cut it up into...

Re: Bamboo curtain

I see that everyone seems to be advising you to poison the bamboo. Now, it may seem to be a bit obvious, but if your neighbours are as pleasant and helpful as you say, why don't you just go talk to...

Re: What do you guys think of living in France

I disagree, unless, of course, things weren't as bad in the thirties as people say they were.

Why do I disagree? Because I'm a geek and geeks, at the heart of it, are consumers. We like to buy...
