Have just clarified the situation. He had a work permit which expired in Nov 07.He was trying to stay on for 'humaritatian reasons' through a lawyer on Winnipeg, but this was denied. He is now trying...

Thanks for the reply, He was applying for permanent residence when the accidents happened, so no, he is not a permanent resident! I am really, really worried about the deportation process!!
