The best restaurant is one whos food you absolutely love, list or no list.

Odd there are not more Tokyo eateries on the list - the city has more Michelin star rated restaurants than Paris.

Food is subjective - who comes up with these lists?

Don't use Paris as a yardstick - they get Michelin stars there just for knowing how to turn the oven on...... give me a 1-star in London over a 1-star in Paris eleven times out of ten.

Never been to Tokyo though.

Eaten at none, heard of some. It's all very subjective though. My husband can't abide fiddly fancy food. He wants his meat, veggies and gravy in visible piles around the plate. He wouldn't give house room to any of these, and god forbid any meat has even a speck of blood coming out

Chuffed to see 3 of the top 10 are spanish - my adopted home for past 11 years. Haven't eated at any of them but can vouch for the general quality of the food - even cheapo tapas dishes generally v. good - offal an'all !

Ate at a nice Turkish place last night on Tahlia St. in Riyadh - can't beat mezze & grilled meats....very tasty.

Unaccountably, they missed out Rock Bottom...............
One word, 'pretentious'.

We ate at Rivington Grill in Madinat last week, was very, very good but it will never make that top 50.

Completely agree...French dining is completely overrated and overpriced in most cases. London has far better places to eat at every level - and it's all in English too

I've yet to get to Tokyo but I keep hearing good things. Beijing has some pretty darn good places and I hear Shanghai is catching up quickly. No surprises there though.

Eaten at a few of them but two of my favorites are not on the list, Spagos & Hali'imaile General Store.
