I always thought that the reason for the black strips top and bottom of the screen was movies were filmed in a different format (size) than the shape of a tv.
Then they bought out widescreens so you could see it as it was meant to be seen.....but you still have this black strip top and bottom.
And it's even worse because programs that are broadcast in normal mode give people really wide shoulders if they're near the edge of the screen.
I don't get the point in widescreen....we are no better off.
I think it's a scam...soon they'll be advertising 'tall screen'....which brings us back to standard ratio....but with simply bigger screens than we started with.
