to confirm - by using VPN tunn el, I can browse the web from Oman just like I was in the UK?
Does that mean I don't have to create my own secure VPN to a PC back in the Uk and get 'out to the world' from there?

I use HotSpot Shield which (I think) acts like a VPN. Its USA based, and totally free ( courteousy of another BE member ).
Works pretty well on my Mac.
