But despite this, I find it a nicer place, and cheaper all over than Dubai.

I’m not 100pct sure VAT creates enjoyment but let’s see. I’m have no issue paying the VAT - especially on unprocessed foods - it’s a bit of a shame it’s hit retail so hard though but hopefully it will drive down rents and move the economy from a rental based one to one that actually focuses on productivity.
