Default UAE National day- decorated cars

Has anyone else seen some funny cars driving around, I kind of take my hat off to these guys for celebrating their national day and I find it very entertaining to see cars pimped up like cheap christmas crackers, has anyone seen any awful ones yet? I saw a range rover zooming down SZR with Sheikh Mo's picture all over it along with bits of tinsel but didnt have to to get my camera out, I'd be amazed if the guy could see where he was going. Is there a prize for best/worst car?

Anyway Happy National day to any locals on here.

Is there anything worth going to?

what's 'worse' about it...what does it matter that people do this, I just don't get the negative attitude towards this at all...
I enjoy seeing the cars all done up, it's fun to watch and it's nice to see people getting into it...
the plastic covering they use is see through from the inside, just like the stuff they use for advertising on the bus and taxis, so it's not like it's dangerous.

I've seen quite a few today, but not like those. I love the one who actually took some spray paint to his car, instead of the easy-peel vinyl.

Saying that, I did see one in JBR that had little UAE bows covering it in a nice 15x15cm grid. I'll try and get some pics up.

did I say I didn't like to see them? I said the decorations get worse, they are comical at times.

I have to admit I feel slight envy when I see the locals proudly celebrating their national day...they manufacture very little and haven't invented anything beyond a visa system that borders on indentured service for some nationalities. Their literacy rates are not particularly high and they routinely negatively discriminate against people based on religion, gender and nationality but they are proud to be who they are.

We don't even have a national day in Britain - unless it revolves around team sports of course. Strange little nation that we are on our windy islands - we've achieved so much more than anyone here has (and to be fair more than most nations period) and are so scared to celebrate it...we can't even agree on a national football team.

I might have to organise a coup in the UK and sort this problem out...then I'll be able to pimp my Skoda with a big union flag and pictures of Darwin and Nelson...with a big bust of Churchill on the roof of course

The Corniche was a bit testosterone ridden this year, the atmosphere had changed. Spraying (non national) people with silly string seemed to be really popular with gangs of lads targeting people in the face. We did a runner as it felt nasty. I wish there could be a focus point/ carnival atmosphere by doing some music and entertainment to keep eveyone in the right mood.
