Default Car - annual technical

Do they test for emissions in Abu Dhabi?

I'd like to de-cat my Scoobie but won't bother if they test the gases

I would imagine they do, pretty sure they do in Dubai, but I have never had an older car, still waiting for my new one, that is three weeks and two days now, bloody bank

I believe they will stick something up your tailpipe.

for what reason? i have the 2.5turbo and tried a few different things with it, the exhaust (even with aftermarket pipes) doesnt restrict the car much. It will make it louder though. Get it chipped instead

They will check to see if a cat is still fitted and if it's been obviously modified then they will fail it and ask you to return it to standard. Spend a bit more and have a look at Supersprint, HKS, Gruppe M or Blitz and look for 100 cell cat replacements. Originals are generally 400 cell (holes for it to pass gasses through) 100 cell, same area, bigger holes, freer flowing. The difference between that and a cat bypass is minimal and if anything, less likely to cause you an emmissions or fuelling issue. Noise will be slightly increased and will give you an increase in mid range. Coupled with a decent remap, they would be the best 'I'm not drawing attention to myself' mods you could do. I'd also consider doing this after the test, or a long time before it so it looks 'weathered' and less like it's modified.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. Back in the UK a few years back I had a decatted MR2 turbo with a Blitz pipe - the engine was in top spec nick and modded to almost 400bhp and passed the MT emissions provided it was running hot. Tested cold, it failed miserably

I dabbled myself, Mitsi Evo II also running 400, but still preferred the N/A MkII Escort running just under 200!
