Re: things you've bought but wouldn't back home
I redo mine about every 3 years once its faded. If you can find Satwa bus station, there are 4-5 shops directly opposite. I dont have a favourite; just negotiate with them and see who gives the best deal. Allow a good 60-90 minutes for them to complete it. Ask for the american branded stuff as it seems to look better and last longer.
What sort of darkness do you get? I have been told / heard that 35% is the legal limit?
Need to do some research.

30% (i.e. 70% is blocked) is the legal limit for the front driver and passenger side. You can go as dark as you want at the back.

30% is officially the legal limit, but I have some cars at 50% and have never been stopped. Having said that, it is definitely more difficult to drive at night on the 50% if the area is not well lit. 30% is sufficient TBH.

If I were you I would aim in between high end (3M, vkool etc) and low end (Satwa) and go for a brand like Nanolux. Decent price but you get a 5 year warranty.
Two places to check out are YellowHat (Times Square Mall on SZR) and Gulf Wireless & Television (http://gwtme.com). The latter are specialists in audio-video in addition to tinting. For example they kitted out all the police cars with their HD video camera equipment. To find them get on the SZR slip road by Noor Islamic Bank Station and keep going past Nissan, Mitsubishi and another car showroom. Just before the next right turn go into the car park and it is just there on the right. (for a map google 'brashy building dubai' and click the third result).

As far as I have gathered the main difference between cheap film and expensive film is how much of the bad stuff (ie UV) they block. The expensive films (like Crystalline from 3M) can be completely transparent whilst still blocking the heat and UV whereas the cheap ones are dark (or even reflective) to block the heat but all UV (or at least most of it) passes through.

Thanks very much for that.

Re 30% - Thanks for confirming - I'm going to go into a few places and see how dark stuff is. My hire car had that strip on the windscreen and it did my head in at night. Mind blowingly stupid.
Thanks for help.

Mrs O's Scooby has Nanolux 30% tints. Looks great, no fading or bubbles.

I have Vkool on my car - it's a 30% all round tint, but they (Trading Enterprises Volvo) did a crap job fitting it. I had it replaced under warranty only a couple of months after and now 12 months later it's fading in places and also bubbling. I think it's more of a fitting issue than the product though.

I have 3M on my Touareg, and it's the top end stuff which has a very slight tint. It's been on the car since new as far as I know (it's a 2007 and I bought it when it was 2 years old) and it still looks and performs brilliantly. On my TT the dealer provided Nanolux from Gulf Wireless & Television as part of the package and I'm very happy. They put dark in the back, slightly lighter (ie 30%) on the front side windows and a dark strip across the front. It took me a few days to get used to it, but now I really like it plus it draws quite a few looks from the tourists..

Like all things in Middle East I'm sure some of the stuff they sell is counterfeit. I'm surprised a brand like Vkool would start fading after only 12 months, but maybe it happens. And bubbles is definitely down to bad fitting...

Nanolux dealers seem hard to come by on google, is it a case of it's a product most places will stock and I should just find a window tinting firm and ask for nano?
