It has been announced that the holiday is Sunday so that is a day off for most people.

Think even the National, usually pretty pro-gov has realised how ridiculous this is. The link beside the article shows the full years holidays as announced by the Gov last December, and shows Mon 4th as the holiday!

Its not just the UAE we've just been told the company is moving the holiday to Saturday the 9th for some very odd reason, I am very glad we didn't book our trip based on this now

New year implies a fixed astronomical date. Something we can predict 100,000 years in advance.
Either stick with the ****ing calendar or make up your minds as to which ****ing day impacts the F1 the least.

FFS is it Saturday Sunday or Monday ?

Utterly ****ing bonkers

it is difficult though to work out the right date ..I hear that there will be a very important announcement shortly after the grand prix weekend.

no not really, the new year is easily calculated well in advance, what clearly isnt is its economic impact on alcohol sales and thus the triple date change and still no clarity of which day wil be celebrated as new year.

is that a change to the Gregorian calendar thats been talked about for years but never seriously?

They've changed their minds again. Now private workers who only do a five day week, with Fri and Sat off, can have the Sunday as a Public Holiday.

So maybe the big news is that private sector should have two day weekends?
