why let the facts get in the way that in the 1930 elections the nazi's gained significant strength and influence with only 18pct of the vote. A FPTP system would have allowed a strong government to stand against their rise and they would never have reached the 33pct they achieved in 1932.
there are many problems with a FPTP system but it's big positive is it allows for the formation of strong stable government. I'm sure many of those favouring PR would not be happy with the representation that would have given UKIP in Parliament. As for FPTP creating strong stable government, that is just a myth with no evidence to support it. Which European country has consistently had the strongest and most stable government since WW2? Hint, the answer is country we have already been discussing and which uses a proportional voting system... As opposed to 1974 in the UK, for example. PR usually produces strong governments because it reflects the actual will of the people even if the process of initially forming governments takes longer. Where there is weakness and instability that is a reflection of the wider political climate rather than the voting system. FPTP often produces false mandates which leads to wild swings in governance and a high degree of alienation as is happening in the US because of the highly gerrymandered congressional FPTP elections. FPTP is far more subject to abuses such as gerrymandering. |

Though I oppose UKIP both on grounds of policy and approach, they should have received their fair representation. And ironically, if the last UK election had been under a proportional system it would have allowed the formation of a government which would not have gone ahead with that bone-headed referendum offering a completely false choice.

Hello, hello!
I still look in from time to time to make sure it's not been completely taken over by RWNJs! :D I still have a notion to try living/working in the ME again, like. It's pretty much 10 years since I left Dubai. I've been reading WeaselDCentral's book too, which has fired up some memories. |

Sadly they're losing worldwide now as the more sensible of us can see the error of their ways. |
