I heard it a lot in this context, but I have recently seen a few Vietnam movies so it's fresh in my mind.
I am sure Clarkson did it on purpose, the crew could have easily waited for the guy not to be on the bridge to shoot the piece. It's the usual 'accidental' innuendo stuff from them. Anyhow both parties are only in it for publicity whatever happens.

I tend to agree with you; good change that Clarkson and Co. deliberately made it seem ambiguous .

Doing something like that is Clarkson ' s M.O. He thought he was being hilariously clever and obtuse, but wasn't. His bad. He can be very funny but is also a bit of an arse.

Live by the sword.... etc

And in the meantime, more publicity for Top Gear and the PC brigade get to have an orgasm over it. Win win.

Ski Dubai has a big ad across SZR saying something along the lines of have fun on our slopes.

Should people be offended?

Of course not, but if The York had the same advert then...

Exactly !

What are the odds that an Asian (Far Eastern) guy would be crossing the bridge the same moment they make the comment. Clarkson and Co. planned it that way but since it is not soo obvious they can feign innocense.

Top Gear now seems soo contrived and scripted . Yes I know even the old TP (from the 90s) was scripted, but I mean scripted like a 'reality' TV show, i.e. bunch of overproduced melodrama.

Clarkson mired in 'racism' row for naming his black Terrier Didier Drogba.

It isn't racist ofcourse to name one's pet after a personality because people absolutely love and cherish their pets, BUT since this is Clarkson, people suspect his motives.

I'd love to write for the DM. I'd confuse everyone by only writing about legitimate stuff and using correct grammar consistently. I wonder what he shouts when he's calling the dog, the name doesn't exactly trip off the tongue does it.

I like TG but I agree with you completely, it used to feel spontaneous not any more.

I watched about half of the Bolivia (?) Special last night--was excellent, IMHO. However, I was knackered and needed to sleep well, and share May's extreme distate for heights: the footage of them tackling the roads with unguarded precipes made me distinctly uneasy. Staged or not (and yes, it is, but so what?), I still think its excellent TV.

Amen. It's always a good watch. I love the long specials they do, some stuff is clearly staged but other stuff (like them being exhausted, messy and almost broken) is great viewing.

The executive producer of Top Gear has admitted presenter Jeremy Clarkson had called an Asian man a 'slope' when he joked about the construction of a bridge in Thailand during an episode.

There was outcry when Clarkson used the word, a derogatory term for people of Asian descent, during the show's two-part Burma special, screened in March this year.

Now the producer of the hit BBC 2 programme has said he regrets the 'light-hearted' wordplay and realises 'that it can be considered offensive to some here and overseas'.

Outcry? About 4 people complained, you wuckfits.

I do like this, though:

Clarkson later used his Twitter account to respond to the allegation, and said: 'I'm not a racist. I am currently sitting in a bar with a man who lives quite near Wales.'
