Serious Problem

Afternoon Ladies and Gents,

I have quite an issue.

I want to wear some burnt orange chinos this weekend to the races (as one does), shoe colour is a slight issue though, tan will look a bit silly, dark dark brown maybe, black maybe, but I'm thinking a blue shoe (navy/dark)?

Kitty? Any suggestions?

I'm off to the mall tonight to buy some bits - it's high time I replaced the current tweed jacket - so suggestions on the footwear front would be welcomed.

Other option is to buy new chinos and just stick on some shoes I already have.

Once again, this problem is obviously a big deal to all of you as well, so jokes are accepted.

Not a massive fan of pointy shit. I don't mind them but thinking maybe something else. Not sure what. Inspire me.

Nice look though, bet you look great today...

What's wrong with chinos? The fallback is just a nice suit - no wasitcoat though.

Well if you have the confidence to pull it off a pair of 16 hole oxblood doc martens or set of snakeskin cowboy boots. Worn outside of the chinos.

I look great yes and it has the advantage that I am not approached by anyone in sales, they are assuming I am in the bizness also.

Alternatively you could be the proverbial light to the moths (or, perhaps, dogshit to the flies) in that if you'd actually spent money on the apparel pictured, you'll be willing to spend more on ****ing anything.

To answer your question, unless you are a middle-aged teacher, overweight, american, in the army or any combination of the former... everything.

What's your stance on elasticated trouser waist bands?
  1. An abomination
  2. The pinnacle of trouser engineering

Do you know I actually spent time, money and energy moving the router from one already secured location in the wall to another one with extra length-ed wires etc JUST so I could have proper wifi signal while on the loo??!!??

These first world problems are starting to get to me, I think I need to go buy something now!!! :D

The former. However, infinitely-variable "automatic" Korean/Chinese belts are the dogs bollocks.

Thanks, looked at some blue shoes and didn't like them. Binned off the orange chinos and opted for some blue-ish ones.

I can guarantee there will be bigger dickheads than me there.

Third pic in your second post is a lovely jacket, similar to the one I bought. But mine is dark-ish brown. Well, maybe that's just brown, it's lovely though. Means I can go with brown shoes too.

You're a Dad. I'm not talking about creases-down-the-front massive baggy pleated chinos that every septic wears. I'm talking nice and smart, slim fitting chinos.

Scamp, you've always seemed like the type who can walk and breath at the same time, so you'll definitely by a couple of notches further up the evolutionary ladder than most of the wide-boy-party-suit-wankers that'll be there.

Where did you get the jacket? I'm in the market for one but everything I like makes me look like a geography teacher, and I'm not that ready to give up on talking to the opposite sex, and on life in general yet.

You're too kind. But I like to think you're correct.

Believe it or not, I trawled the mall last night...Ted Baker, Paul Smith, Massimo, Sacoor, Jack Wills (saw a nice one in there ages ago), etc etc etc. Ended up getting one off the discount rail in....Next. Yes, I'm just as surprised as you. It's obviously not of the same quality that the other places want to charge 1000-4500 for, but it's a decent fit (despite the fact I'm tall and wide, like a sausage) and was just over 300 dizzers. STEAL....well worth a look. Let's face it, I'm not going to spend 000's of denzels on a jacket I'll wear once or thrice a year, not yet anyway.

Sort of. I despise the hipster type image, it always seems that the idea is to look like you're not trying too hard but they always look like they've tried the hardest. I won't be rolling the ankles up, they're slim fit but I'm obviously rocking a 36inch waist so it just means they're not baggy down the bottom half of the leg. Smash in some awesome socks and I'll be making up for the lack of personality like a boss.

Smart as ****.

I've always worn chinos, smarter than jeans, but not a pair of suit trousers. Lots of colours too, I've got red, navy, sky blue, this new funny blue I bought, different shades of khaki/beige/brown, orange.

You're not allowed to use "thrice" in a discussion about chinos. Go to the back of the class.

Am I missing something here? Are Chino's really 'in', or just in Dubai. Everyone is still wearing stone washed jeans in Doha

Skeptics - there is a different between old man/fat American chinos and the modern cut ones.

Makes perfect sense that they would be popular here as they fit the Dubai 'smasual' dress code perfectly.

The ‘The Only Way is Dubai’ crowd are very keen on them because they don’t want to go out wearing stonewashed jeans looking like their fathers.

I guess so. But it's not the end of the world. Button down collar and cuff links? I wouldn't do that but didn't know it was a rule.

I'm amazed this is surprising folk...I've worn them for years for 'smarter' days and things. Sunday lunch with Granny? Chinos. Going to a box at the football? Chinos. Nice dinner with the mrs somewhere a bit posher? Chinos. Flying home but refuse to dress like a slob? Comfy chinos. Strolling round the mall? Comfy chinos. Brunch? Chinos. Night out? Chinos.

Chinos? Chinos.
