14 years in the US, 12 years in the UK, 3 years in the UAE.

UK is the next stop but wouldn't mind an Asian stint in the future, but in the long run home is the UK.

Oh me too. I spent three weeks in French Polynesia a few years ago and promised myself that I will go back to the region again visit the Marquesas. There's something about out-of-the-way places that really attracts me.

Have you been drinking?

I'd love to go back. I used to visit Dad often as he stayed there for a long time, but haven't been back since getting malaria in my early 20's.

There's not too much going on in the financial world there that would suit DH's job so it looks like it'll just be a holiday soon enough. Now have to wait for the new little tacker to grow up a bit.

I lived for 5 years in Kenya as a kid (my dad stayed on and has now been there for about 30 years with no plans to leave). I would move there in a heartbeat, but I don't think ecommerce is going to be a big thing in Africa for a few years yet so my skills aren't really needed.

Countries I've lived in are;
Norway, Kenya, Norway, Kenya, US, Norway, UK, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain

Next step would be Dubai/Abu Dhabi or perhaps Doha (not sure I can hack living there though). After that I wouldn't mind Singapore, KL or Hong Kong before I'm sure we'll end up for a few years in the UK. Finally we have talked about moving to California when we hit 50, but I have a feeling this will never happen and I've still got quite a few years to go

Every now and then I hear some expat talk about moving to California or Florida, but you are aware that without US citizenship or a job offer it's very difficult do to this? It's not like, say, retiring to Thailand.

Anyway, California is a crap state. Used to be quite nice but it's now overcrowded and very expensive with a government teetering on bankruptcy.

Yes, of course I am aware, however, I am connected. I'll leave it at that...

Whether California is a crap state or not is no different than discussing if the UK is a sh*thole or not. Every person will have their own opinion and is entitled to it.

Do you have health insurance, dude? Will your 'connection' provide you with private health insurance? Completely paying for your own insurance out of pocket at age 50 is, well, very expensive.

I arrived for my second stint in 85.

Ah Diani Beach! It was such a nice place back then. It's a huge disappointment if you go back now. Never went there for New Years though.

I have some great memories from Nairobi. Carnivore, Sailing Club, ISK...

Hmm..

The way I look at it Health Insurance is one of the expenses of living anywhere in the world outside of UK, or also Norway in my case. If you must know, I am unlikely to completely retire and my skills and work experience very much lend themselves to consultancy. Essentially this (and a few other things) become a normal business expense. Of course I wouldn't work full time, but merely enough to keep things ticking over..

Thanks for your concern though Ethos
