Re: Room 101
There are lots of very good people, but today it just seems to be a total influx of ***** into our bit of the office. Just swathes of them. Coming in, being ****ing stupid and departing.
I scratch my head at senior guys being on 2-3-4 times the money I'm on and live in this bizarre alternative world where idiots prosper.
So glad it's Ramadan hours.

Re: Room 101
You have to move up, there will be a pay range to your current role which you are obviously crossing at the moment. I have a lot of talented engineers working with me who are very good at their jobs but complain about their salary, but without taking on more responsibility I can't pay them more. They will stagnate otherwise.
In short do more, get more
In short do more, get more
I took a pay cut last year on the promise of a bonus to take me over where I was. Smashed it. Tore the year apart, gave it a new bottom hole and dominated it. Took on several new projects / responsibilities, smashed them too. Hit every single target for my bonus. Appraisal finished with me being given 'at next suitable opportunity' (read: pay review time) a promotion.
Got stiffed on bonus. Got less than 50%. Earned more in 2014 than I did in 2016.
Pointed out this is bullshit. Waiting for pay review and to see what they wish to do.
There is no way on Earth I'd back out of an argument that I've not done enough to earn a sensible review.
The way I see it:
1. Give me good size raise for being a hero.
2. Give me **** all / small raise because that's what you want to pay this role....then replace me when I've found something else to move to.
I'm sort of relaxed about it, but it's dominating my world at present making it hard to concentrate and motivate myself to bust a gut....hence the increased activity on here.... it's obviously very important to me and the business has an opportunity to reward me in line with peers in different divisions / work streams. If not, it's fine, I'll be genuinely gutted because I like this firm and enjoy being part of it but I'll have to leave to continue a sensible path of growth+reward rather than being laughed at.
We'll see.
I'm on holiday from next Thursday and it's meant to be done this month, so I don't hold my breath.
