Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
Helluva good guy, a real unsung gem of a bloke who did a lot for others without the lime light. Sadly missed
|
Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
RIP.
I remember when he did the British Rail adverts back in the 80's. |

Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
Clunk-clip
Every trip! I dare say there a quite a few on here who can remember Sir Jim's charity fund raising for Stoke-Mandeville spine hospital? I guess there are quite a few guys and galls (*sorry*...) in green in Iraq and Afgahnistan who are grateful to his charitable efforts. |
Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
Sorry to hear Jimmy Saville has gone, he was a tireless charity worker, and brought happiness to many.
Mad as a box of frogs though, and some questions about his lifestyle that were never fully explained. I read a comment from his next door neighbour that was very odd: "He kept his dead mothers clothes in the wardrobe, one of his many quirks. Another one would be telling my mum that he'd enjoyed her performance in a porn movie. I hope to god he was either joking or mistaken" He also said: "I've been Jimmys next door neighbour for the past few years.. Regardless of what might be said about him, he was a really charming and interesting guy who had time for everyone. RIP Jimmy!" |

You sound a bit like the gutter snipe press who comment regularly( every 15 mins on Sky News) along the lines : 'He never said a bad word about anyone..' 'We can't find anything negative in life or about his personality.' 'He never married' His mother was the most important person in his life' 'He was platinum blonde' Oooh but I bet they tried, I bet they looked for the flaw to sell some copy. A.holes. Anyone bothered to cover (1) Exactly how much he earned for Stoke Mandeville or (2)That he may have been albino... Is that too much like real life? I do agree with you on one point.. RIP Jimmy. I'll attempt to chug my way thru' a Partagas with my espresso after dinner tonite in your memory.Sleep well. |
Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
It seems Jim raised somewhere between £35 million and £40 million.
If you do that , you're allowed a few quirks in the machine.... |

Leave poor Jimmy alone. That means you, and you and you and you.

Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
I saw the quotes of £40m quid for charity. Can't really say much bad about someone who achieves that, so fair play to him.
I'll always remember him because thanks to Jim'll Fix It I know how they get boats in bottles. |

Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
Of course you haven't heard of him- you're American. Jimmy was one of Englands quirky and fabulous eccentrics who I am sure most Brits have a soft spot for as more or less everyone has grown up with him. My childhood was spent watching him on Saturday nights and I may have also written to him to see if he could 'Fix it for me" (his tv show). A true national treasure. Show respect where respect is due my friend :D

Not all of us have a soft spot for him. Credit for raising a lot of money for charity, but there are plenty of skeletons in his closet, sadly.

Perhaps his charity work was atonement for past deeds. |

Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
There were some very strange rumours doing the rounds at the BBC a few years ago about him.

Bit of a kleptomaniac too. The least of his problems, really. He raised an astonishing amount for charity but he was very screwed up. I wonder if the red tops will give it a few weeks then go for it. I'm amazed he managed to keep his nose clean for so long. We were repeatedly reminded that he had very powerful friends and several people we spoke to mentioned death threats. The channel 4 lawyers were especially eager not to upset him. And he was super, super smart. Sharp, shrewd, quite calculating. Not a lot of people knew that and treated him like an affable stupid eccentric. |
Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
I'm keeping my rose tinted glasses firmly on.
There is a reason I would never even consider going into the public eye even though we all know I would make a fabulous queen of the world- far too much stuff on me to paint me in a far than pleasant manner- and I am lovely really- we all do regretable stuff, not saying whatever he has done is right (as I'm not sure what meow is refering to) but we all have skeletons. I still think he was fab  |
Re: RIP Jimmy Saville
It's interesting isn't it? Because there appears to be a darker side to him, now he's dead, it will probably float to the surface...
Who on here though, doesn't have something they would rather keep quiet? I'm certain that when Ian Botham karks it, all the bottom feeders' will say that he was a shit, and ignore what he has done with his Hannibal walks for charity. Isn't a maaarvelous world when we have to wait for someone to die before we give them a swift kicking? |

I take it you're talking about Haut de la Garenne and his touching up of a 14 year old child (Coleen Nolan) on Top Of The Pops... Not that incident, but there are masses of stories floating around about him and have been for years. I also know witnesses to various incidents. |
