Ramadan Working Hours

Re: Ramadan Working Hours
True.
I get Millhouse's point though and don't have a problem with doing the hours, but where I'm from the law is there to be followed and if the government on one hand declared something to be unlawful the other hand wouldn't ignore it..but this is the ME where contradiction is part of the game...

However, take off your time spent on BE at work, and you probably only do 20 hours.....

Actually I'm currently a contractor so I'm not really that keen on doing too many extra hours. And I spend very little time on BE during the day...

To be fair my boss is a twat who couldn't care less about us and told us that he doesn't care and doubts Emiratis come and check from the ministry as it hardly ever happens.
However he's off for two weeks over ramadan so I think I'll do shorter hours anyway.

Spugsy, you should call the Ministry & report the fat twat. I'd be hugely entertained if he was fined.

In my experience many people are scared to rock the boat. That's the general feedback. And it can also takes ages to get the MoL to answer the phone. Drives me nuts.

I think the perception differs from industry to industry . I expect my senior guys to do what they have to do over any holiday if need be but that's the nature of the job and project , i have no problem in them taking the days in lieu or even having a day off during the week , i expect people to manage themselves at a senior level and manage their people accordingly.
We have an annual bonus scheme to take that into consideration . Ive had employees that have a bit of a whinge but it comes with the territory i'm afraid.
If you want 9-5 / 2 day weekends and reduced hours during Ramadan then working in construction in the M.E is not your best bet.
We bring Iftar to site for everybody regardless of nationality or religion and pay overtime for those applicable after 6 hours and if our muslim staff would like to switch to nightshift to help with the summer / fasting then we accommodate that as well .
It works quite well across the board.

Re: Ramadan Working Hours
My organisation makes no bones about it in an internal communication from the CEO, that Ramadan working hours apply to Muslim staff only.
Quote "The Working hours for Non-Muslim employees will remain the same".
This is my 3rd Ramadan with the same rule. I am in KSA btw with a major company and employer.

It's annoying that companies don't comply with the law, but most of us here are well paid, in good jobs, have privileges and benefits, or some work for ourselves. We're not really badly done by, but there are a thousands of poorly paid people in grotty jobs who should be protected by the law.

It's a bonus that I can work 9-3. Not an expectation.
