Default Ramadan Working Hours

If a company were to announce that Muslim staff could leave earlier than non-Muslim staff, would that be discriminatory?

Yes, it's not actually allowed.

The announcement is for all nationalities and religions, it drops maximum working hours a week from 48 (8 hours x 6 days) to 36 (6x6).

OK, to expand a bit: A friend's employer (he doesn't participate here) has normal working hours of 9-6, with an hour off for lunch. Ramadan working hours have just been announced as 9-4, but Muslim's can leave at 3 (since, by inference, they won't be having lunch). Still illegal?

Not an option given to them: only Muslims can leave at 3.

Just cos it wasn't given, doesn't mean it's not available. If he doesn't offer the 9-3 piece, I would walk in on stroke of nine, out at midday, back at 1, out at 4pm.

Just suck it up, its not like anyone is going to do a lot in the last hour.

Plus I used to be amazed in some of my work places who turned out not to be Muslim when I saw some of the non fasters.

We've got 8-2 or 9-3 as working hours during Ramadan for everyone.

Normal are 8-4:30 (although leaving before 6 is used against you).

Oh goodness no.

But if I can start at 9 then I still have a little bit of a win....sort of like a two fingers up at the boss when he isn't looking.

But that being said, last year I used to leave at 3 because the office was empty (as well as the golf course).

Also, when you're smashing targets like your clay pigeon shooting you can do what you want.

0900-1300 (Officially) 2030-2230 (Officially)

Though we will be open from 0830 -1300 and 1730 - Everyone pisses off.

And as the police/workshops etc are only open in the mornings there will be no strolling in at 1030/11 oclock for me.

God damn you Motor Trade....
